Broadcom to Acquire Siliquent Technologies
Broadcom Corporation, a leading
provider of chipsets for communications and home networking, has signed a
definitive agreement to acquire Siliquent Technologies, a privately-held
developer of 10 Gigabit Ethernet network interface controllers with advanced
Ethernet processing technology for server networking, network storage and
clustering applications. It develops Ethernet controllers that boost server
performance and its technology enables servers to improve overall application
performance while taking advantage of the emerging convergence of data, storage
and clustering technologies into a single, standards-based Ethernet fabric...

Echelon Unveils Power Line Technology Suite for Home Automation
Systems
Echelon Corporation, developer of
LonWorks control and communications technology, has expanded its power line
technology [PLC] in order to significantly expand the number and types of
applications under which existing electrical wiring is used for control
networks. The new technologies include the second-generation of Echelon's
patented "switched-leg" technology that makes power line communications reliable
in all homes, new Interoperable Self-Installation [ISI] software that allows
end-users to configure two or more products by simply plugging them into the
wall, and two new rapid design tools -- the Mini EVK for testing and software
development and the PL DSK [Rev 2] for developing hardware using Echelon's power
line technology. Echelon also lowered the price of its PL 3120 and PL 3150 Power
Line Smart Transceivers.
Nortek to Acquire Niles Audio
Nortek, a leading supplier of building
products and home communications products, has announced that a company formed
by its Linear LLC subsidiary has acquired the assets of Niles Audio Corporation,
a supplier of speakers and audio and video distribution products to the custom
home installation market. This acquisition expands Nortek's home technology
product offering.

media technology, has unveiled plans to release the MediaREADY 5000 Advanced
Digital Media Center to the market powered by the Linux-based SageTV Media
Center software. This new media center was developed in a collaboration with
SageTV, a developer of personal video recording and home media center
technologies. The SageTV software running on the MediaREADY 5000 will enable
complete Media Center capabilities, including PVR, DVD/CD burning, music and
photo management, Web browsing, Email,
Plantronics Acquires Altec Lansing
Plantronics, a leading provider of headsets and voice
communications devices, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire
Altec Lansing Technologies, a leading provider of portable and powered audio
systems. Under the terms of the agreement, Plantronics will acquire all of the
capital stock of Altec Lansing for a cash purchase price in total of
approximately $166 million. Following the close of the transaction, Altec
Lansing Technologies will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Plantronics.

solution for the utility market.
Duquesne Broadband Unveils BPL Internet Pilot
Duquesne Light Company, the energy supplier to customers
around Pittsburgh [Pennsylvania] area and part of the
DQE energy
group, has launched a wireless Internet pilot in targeted Monroeville
neighborhoods. The wires that bring electricity to the home will be used to
deliver BPL-based [broadband over powerlines] high-speed wireless Internet
service through Duquesne Broadband, a joint venture between BPL Global and DQE
Communications Network Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Duquesne Light
Holdings.
